Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation

Saving Iggies in Texas & Oklahoma

We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Italian Greyhounds. Every dog deserves a safe, loving home.

What We Do

The Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) dedicated to rescuing Italian Greyhounds from shelters, owner surrenders, puppy mills, and dangerous situations across Texas and Oklahoma.

We provide full veterinary care, behavioral rehabilitation, and foster homes until each dog finds their perfect forever family. We've placed hundreds of IGs in loving homes since our founding.

Every dog in our program is spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm tested, and receives any needed dental or medical care before adoption.

Meet the Italian Greyhound

The Good

  • Fiercely loyal, deeply bonded
  • Intelligent and trainable
  • Athletic (can hit 25 mph!)
  • Minimal grooming, short coat
  • Long-lived: 13-18 years
  • Great with other dogs

The Real Talk

  • Velcro dogs: zero personal space
  • Housetraining is a challenge
  • Fragile legs (fractures are common)
  • Hate rain, cold, and wind
  • Daily dental care required
  • NEVER safe off-leash outdoors

Safety: The Big Three

  • Escape risk: Never off-leash outside a secure fence. They're sighthounds with prey drive. One squirrel and they're gone at 25 mph. Martingale collar required at all times.
  • Fractures: Young dogs are at high risk for leg breaks. No jumping from furniture or heights. Prevention is everything. Budget $1,500-$3,000 just in case.
  • Not outdoor dogs: Never left outside unsupervised. They have no body fat, no tolerance for weather extremes, and are small enough to be carried off by predators.

Adoption Fees

Non-refundable donation at time of adoption. Covers vetting, spay/neuter, microchip, dental, and heartworm care.

6 months or younger$350
7 months - 2 years$325
3 - 8 years$300
Over 8 years$275

How to Get Involved

Adopt: Fill out an application. We'll check references, do a phone interview, and schedule a home visit. The process takes up to 3 weeks, and it's worth it.

Foster: Same application, choose "Foster." You provide love and a safe home; we cover all vet costs. Foster homes are the backbone of rescue.

Volunteer: Help with transport, home visits, events, fundraising, admin, social media, and more. No dog ownership required.

Donate: Every dollar goes directly to vet care, heartworm treatment, dentals, and emergency surgeries for dogs in need.
